5 Stars Perfect but not for everyone.
If you want a very easy to use “point and shoot” with good image quality, face recognition, and anti-shake there are many to choose from - I would not get this one. Yes you can do the “point and shoot” thing and it works fine, but this camera is physically larger than the others and it would be a waste of what this camera can really do.

What is so great about his camera is the amount of manual and semi-manual control you have. You can set every single component that goes into making a photo! Or you can select pre-sets where one component is the primary adjustment. So if you know something about what all these components do then this is a great camera for you - assuming you don’t always want to lug around an Digital SLR.

Also of course the optical zoom is quite nice and the image quality is very good.

I feel like I am back in the days of my old Canon or Nikon film SLR cameras. I get to choose how I want to make the adjustments, or if I am feeling lazy I just let the camera do it for me, which is fine quite a bit of the time anyway.

4 Stars new user
I have had the XS120IS for just a short time. I am impressed with the 3″ LCD, extremely clear and easy to use in any light.

I appreciate the covered shutter for safety and the manual pop up flash. The playback is quite simple, as is the download to

the pc. The pictures quality is extremely good. I seldom use the various features beyond point and shoot, but it seems

fairly well equipped. I was a little disappointed in the size as there are several other digitals in the same price range

that are much smaller. All in all, I am glad I got this camera, I have been happy with it.

2 Stars Poor picture quality
I ordered this camera from Amazon a few weeks ago that hoping to get better picture quality than my old Olympus D490 (9yrs old 3.1 MP) and my Canon SD500(7.1MP). This cameara failed to impress me. It has the 10X optical zoom and that is the only feature I can say it is better than my Olympus or old Canon. However, the picutres I took are so griny and it does not matter if I change it to program mode and adjsut the ISO settings. The picures are just so bad when you look on computer. I called Amazon and returned this product. I am getting a replacement Canon SX200IS and I am hoping 200IS is better than the 120IS.

4 Stars Very Happy with this Camera
This camera is great! So easy to use and takes great shots. The only problem I have is that the batteries it comes with don’t last very long, and I bought some rechargeable ones, and they don’t last very long either. But I can deal with that. The pictures look very polished and professional. The colors are clear and distinct. I love the zoom! Our last camera had hardly an zoom capabilities so it was something I was determined to have this time and I am not dissappointed. I can sit on my living room couch and take a perfectly clear photo of the leaves turning red on the tops of the trees outside.Amazing. It also takes great micro photos. I got some amazing shots of our garden, some real up close photos. Very happy overall. It is larger than the last camera we had, but with that said we gave up a lot of great features to have portability and it wasn’t worth it at all. It fits in the camera bag we have or in a purse. That’s all that matters. Oh and I also love the screen on the back, it is very large and has a great quality to it.

5 Stars A Rank Amateur’s Review

I can’t write an in depth review of this camera because I simply don’t have the knowledge of either cameras or photography. But I can tell you what I, as a rank amateur, like about it and why I chose it.

I have grandkids. I needed a camera that would allow me to capture decent pictures of them - and in a digital format - so that I can, like all good grandparents, brag about my grandkids via email and attach photos to prove that they are the cutest kids on the face of the earth.

I had my “good” camera - an old Pentax K1000 that I’ve had for about 30 years - and a small, inexpensive digital camera that I got a few years ago and have never been happy with. Not only was the Pentax not digital, it also turns out that the grandkids can move much faster than I can focus. And that camera purchased as my first attempt at digital just wasn’t cutting it. It was overly complicated and with it I wasn’t getting pictures good enough to share.

I gave my needs some thought and made the following criteria list:

Easy to use.

Fast shutter speed.

Easy to use.

Small enough to fit into my purse easily.

Easy to use.

My needs were simple and I didn’t think it would be too hard to find a camera to fit the bill. Happily, I was right.

After my initial research had convinced me to go with a Canon, I borrowed my brother’s Rebel (don’t know the model number) and my son’s Canon PowerShot Pro Series S5 IS. I knew that neither fit my criteria (not to mention the $500-$700 price range was more than I wanted to spend), but using them for a few days gave me the opportunity to check out some of Canon’s features.

That’s how I discovered the Optical Image Stabilizer. I can see from reviews of other cameras that it’s been around for a few years, but I’d never used it before. It immediately went to the top of my list of desired features - even above “easy to use”!

I have a tremor condition that causes fine shaking in my hands. It doesn’t bother me and doesn’t always affect close work, but it can make holding something steady - say, for instance, a camera - almost impossible. As you can guess, the result of that shakiness when snapping photos is, most often, crappy photos.

Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer was like a miracle for me. With it, I could take close ups that were startlingly clear - not every time, of course, but MOST times. And, in combination with a fast shutter speed, the Image Stabilizer helped me to get some great shots - even action shots - of my test subject, my dog.

With my adjusted criteria list, I did some more research that led me to the Canon PowerShot SX120IS 10MP. One of Canon’s newer models, the PowerShot SX120IS puts ease of use in the forefront of its advertising. It fit all of my criteria and at a decent price.

I haven’t had this camera for very long, but I’m already thrilled with it. The Easy Mode is actually EASY! What a concept! The LCD screen is larger than what I’ve used previously and makes it easier for me to judge if the picture I just took is relatively clear. The Image Stabilizer continues to be my new best friend.

Good points:

IMAGE STABLIZER!!

Fast shutter speed

Genuinely easy to use

Small size

Decent price

Bad points:

I’m so happy with my choice that I can’t think of any right now!

If I was a serious photographer, I may well have chosen a more comprehensive camera (with all those features and symbols only serious photographers can decipher). But for my level of use and my personal needs, this one does a terrific job and didn’t overly strain the budget. Yeah!

Recommended.

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars 10X OPticAL ZoOM
It is a good camera if you need good optical zoom in a compact size

5 Stars Excellent for travel
I’ve bought this camera for a 3 month excursion through europe. 10 days in and I love the camera. It is easy to use and the wide angle is great. Also, the battery life is fantastic. I can get through a good 300 pictures before having to recharge.

4 Stars Glorified snapshooter
The ZS1 is a wonderfully light compact camera with a big 12x zoom (the ZR1 has only 8x). The optical zoom can be pushed to 21x, at the cost of resolution. Everything is pretty much automatic. Lots of fun. It has many setting choices (parameters like file size, aspect ratios, metering–accessible on Quick Menu during shooting) and numerous Scene modes (including panorama sequence, for stitching in software supplied on CD). The “Food” Scene even made my cooking look like real food! Still more fun. Records 5 sec audio with still pictures. Numerous playback modes. It takes about 160 highest resolution pictures per battery charge. I carry it in a little protective bag, and it still fits in my (pants) pocket!

I had trouble seeing the LCD image, camera focus, and tiny icons in raking sunlight, either because the screen washed out, or reflected my sunny face. What do I do, look through a funnel instead, or drape a black cloth over the camera and my head (like the original glass plate view cameras a century ago!)? There’s no viewfinder, so we can’t hold the camera to our face and avoid the whole problem. (Note that these can be problems for most recent compact cameras, with their fixed LCD screens.) Awkward placement of shutter button on mid line and inboard of mode dial and zoom knob.

PC and AV cables, as well as one battery and charger, are included (no memory card, although 40MB is built in). Other acessories are expensive, if not a gouge. Buying the optional AC adaptor to power picture transfers will set you back $130 altogether, due to the additional required cable-connector purchase. The AC adaptor does not recharge the battery. All these are proprietary ($$$) rather than standard cables. Note also that Panasonic firmware 1.2 does not allow the use of non-Pansasonic ($$$) aftermarket ($) batteries as spares.

The ZS1 does only 848×640 max motion-JPEG monaural movie (while ZS3 adds AVCHD 720HD in stereo). If the camera won’t automatically take a picture I like (for example, depth of field, right amount of motion blur), it is hard to alter settings to something I liked better. The camera has no aperture- or shutter speed-priority modes, let alone full manual control. What a shame! That’s why I say it is a snapshot camera, rather than THE gloriously pocketable substitute for an SLR. If you demand such creative controls in a faux-SLR, consider the Canon Powershot SX200 IS (whose feature set in the same form factor is better compared to the Lumix DMC-ZS3, both with added HD video, a bigger LCD, and higher price).

5 Stars Great “travel” camera
On another camera review website, this was listed as one of the new class of “travel” cameras, and I can see why. I recently used this camera on a 2 week trip to Spain. As I have an interest in photography, I do take a large DSLR with lenses; however I like a “point and shoot” for wandering around at night and situations where I am trying to “relax,” such as being in a park. On the trip, I took about 500 shots with the Lumix. The lens range, from wide angle to mid telephoto was great. Picture quality was good, as was focus speed, start up speed and zoom speed. The camera performed well for a “point and shoot” in low light. One issue was that the LCD did “wash out” a couple of times, but that is typical of a camera without an optical viewfinder. Also, it is probably a good idea to charge the battery daily. This camera is slightly larger than the average “point and shoot” but it still fit well into a pants pocket. It was a bit too bulky for a shirt pocket. It seems a very good travel camera for those who want snapshots on a trip and a very good travel camera for those who want to supplement their large DSLR. I’m glad I bought it.

4 Stars Great point-and-shoot gives snapshots a little something extra
I’m a big fan of the Leica lenses on the Panasonic cameras. They’ve got a bit of work to do yet on making the camera’s processor keep up with such a magnificent lens, as sometimes the camera is slow to respond, and I think the super lens is also what makes the battery life a bit mediocre, hence I am knocking off a star. Also, proprietary battery and download cables are slightly annoying.

But what beautiful pictures this little thing creates, with fairly easy handling. Great camera if you are looking for a superzoom with image stabilization. I compared it against the Canon superzooms, and quite frankly the Panasonic turns out a higher caliber - the Leica lens makes all the difference. I am willing to put up with the minor issues for those great close-up shots.

Duracell Pre Charged Rechargeable Nimh AAA Batteries 4 Pack

DURACELL PRE-CHARGED AAA 4PK RECHRGBL *NIC* - Pre-Charged Rechargeable AAA Batteries

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars 4 packs: two white tops, two black tops
See customer images for explanation of white/black tops…

I recently bought 4 packs… the AAAs I received were white tops (supposedly eneloops) and the AAs I received were black tops (supposedly rayovacs)… I don’t know too much about rechargeable batteries, but from what I’d previously read online, I was hoping for all white tops…

I gave 4 stars because I got half black tops, but haven’t actually used either yet…

5 Stars Rechargeable Duracell AAA batteries
My old Sony and Radio Shack rechargeable batteries were discharging quickly when used on our cordless phone system. Our phone is working great after replacing the batteries with Duracell rechargeable batteries.

I even used regular (not rechargeable) new Duracell batteries and the phone was not working noise free.

4 Stars Got the made in China ones
I bought this product twice. I once got a batch made in Japan which is basically the Sanyo Eneloop clones and my latest batch was made in China. They seem to be similar the same so far but I have very little experience with these.

5 Stars great item
I have had this item for 1 month and am very happy with the length of time these batteries have kept their charge in my radio. I would recommend these. Also I received these in super fast time.

5 Stars No Precharge!
I am so happy that you can use these straight from the package. They are the ones to buy. I believe that since there is no precharge these should be purchased over the ones you do have to charge.

Olympus Neoprene Soft Digital Camera Case

Soft, weather resistant neoprene case with wrist strap protects your camera from scratches and provides the perfect storage for your camera. Features an outside pocket for media cards and a velcro beltloop.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Case
This is a great case to keep in your purse and have your camera ready for any great picture. It’s soft, and the strap is comfortable on the wrist if necessary The camera is well protected in the case.

5 Stars Practical extra
Practical, however, a bit cumbersome if you’re in a hurry to take pix. Good for travel protection.

5 Stars Just perfect!
This camera case is just perfect. We have a new Olympus camera, and this case fits perfectly, and it’s thick and cushy enough to protect it, while small enough to fit in your pocket or purse. Comes highly recommended!!

5 Stars Nice quality, perfect fit for Olympus waterprrof camera
Very pleased with quality and ease of use. The Olympus waterproof camera (mine is a 2009 model) fits perfectly in this case and the price was less than the generic camera cases sold at Target/Walmart.

5 Stars Fits my Olympus Stylus 1010 perfectly. Nice belt loop too.
I did not want a hard case because they tend to be bigger and clunkier, and they also let the camera bounce around inside the hard shell. This neoprene case has what I would consider to be enough thickness to offer good protection/ padding to protect the camera from a fall from the height of someone’s waist or hands. I only plan to keep a spare battery and maybe a spare memory card in the case also, so the small (sleek-in my opinion) front pocket is perfectly sized for that application. FYI, there is also a small back pocket that the wrist strap came tucked into when I got my case. I would say there is enough room for another battery and memory card in that back pocket too- if anyone wanted to store that much battery and memory. I am just going to continue to tuck the wrist strap into that back pocket. (you can do this with the small end of the wrist strap still connected to the case)

The main reason that I am writing this is to let anyone with a Stylus 1010 know that that camera fits PERFECTLY inside this case.. From comparing the measurements of the case and camera (almost identical) I thought it might be too snug for easy removal/ input but the camera slides in and out just fine. It really is a perfect fit for the 1010. I consider this to be a perfect case for this camera at a GREAT price!

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Wonderful Sound Quality
Pros

This voice recorder had great quality (especially when paired with the Olympus ME-15 Microphone) for the price. The file transfer system is not complicated, just a folder to copy files from. I am very satisfied with the product and would recommend this product for anyone who ever wanted a voice recorder but did not want to shell out the big bucks.

Cons

The folders and indexing functions take a while to get use to but with a little practice they become second nature.

4 Stars Compact recorder
I use this recorder for recording ideas while I’m on the road. I like the compactness of it. The instructions were another issue. They were not as clear as they could have been written, but with a bit of brain power, it can be figured out. I wish that there was an indicator of some sort stating whether it is on or off. Hold????

4 Stars Worth the Money
This digital recorder is a great machine for the price. Recorder is light weight, play back is clear, machine is easy to use, even has auto shut off to preserve battery life if you forget to turn it off. Many great features for a digital recorder at this small of a price. Being able to listen to a class leature several times has really helped my grades improve!

The only draw back is the mono earphone jack instead of a regular stereo jack, but you can get a small adapter for less than $5 that will allow you to use your regular headphones.

1 Star No ability to re-record corrections
I am very disappointed with this product. If you expect to use it for dictation purposes, forget it! You cannot go back to a spot and record over a correction, as you can with the least expensive micro-cassette recorders. If you want that feature in an Olympus digital recorder, you have to spend over $200 for another machine. Nothing in the information I read prepared me for that. It was only after I received it and, disappointed, contacted Olympus technical support, that it was confirmed that it could not be used for my intended purpose. Perhaps other brands offer this feature at a lower price; I did not check.

5 Stars Perfect for me
Excellent quality sound wise. Easy to use, compact and I loved it right away. Uploads to my computer were seamless and almost does it by magic. After I played back using Window Media Player I was impressed by the clarity and tone quality. A great product.
