Bought the camera for a trip to Mexico in Nov. So far good camera with the tests have put it thru, including water test and college football game. Good pics. Found at a good price. I like the extra settings for snow, water, night; a lot of features in a little camera. Will really give it a workout in Nov. when in Mexico; planning on snuba diving, deep sea fishing, Chichen Itza, and snorkeling. I also liked that it came with a microSD Olympus adapter, good call Olympus.

Great camera. I use it in my watersports business and I destroyed the Tough- 6000 in 3 weeks. This one is tougher and has lasted the whole summer.

I purchased this camera for my girlfriend. She did not like her previous camera because it was too delicate and broke after the first week. She tends to drop electronics, frequently. So I bought this camera after reading reviews and talking to people at stores, I made an excellent purchase!
We took this on vacation to the 1000 islands in NY. After 5 minutes of owning this camera she dropped it out of her purse, #1. Camera took it just fine. Later that week she was throwing it to someone else they missed the camera hit the cement, still works as it was out of the box. By the end of the vacation the camera had been dropped on cement or dirt at least 4-5 times and it works great.
We also tested this camera in the St. Lawerence River. We were very sceptical since well it is not in our nature to put electronics in the water. We made sure to read the manual which we forgot to bring and downloaded one online instead. After we made sure the ports for the camera cord, battery compartment/memory card were definately closed into the river it went. We took many underwater pictures. The camera went down to about 5-8 feet and was just fine. Photos came out great and we couldn’t be happier. We did not test the temperature aspect of this camera but did use the “tap” feature (by mistake). I will take this sking with me this winter and see how it fares.
One tip I have is that if you are planning to take this underwater, get a flotation device. Either buy the one that is made for this camera or make your own. We had to take great care when switching the camera between users so that it did not see the bottom of the river.
4 Stars olympus stylus 8000 tough
I bought the 8000 for my fishing trip to ALASKA and it exceeded my expectations….I’m a camera novice but by the end of the trip the 8000 worked like a champ and handled whatever mother nature could dish out where as my buddies had to put there cameras and video cameras away because of the weather…we would have lost alot for great photos and videos if not for the 8000….the panoramic feature was great and so easy to use…..I will say that you suffer on long distance close ups like the Bald Eagles i tried to take a pic of,the digital zoom is just to fuzzy…other than that no problems…havent tried it underwater yet but if your a active outdoors person look into this camera…. I had bought 1 for my son in the COAST GUARD and his buddies liked it so much they all got one…..
3 Stars water proof BUT…
I bought three to try out, Olympus, Panasonic and Nikon, The Olympus had two CON: the lens cover and different sized memory card. The Panasonic was the one I choose for our group.
What kills other digital cameras in the field is the dust. The lens cover started to not completely open after a week. Sent back to Olympus and they fixed. Happened again in two days so Olymous instructed seller to refund.
Pictures are great for my use.
The use of the different memory card was another CON. We have a bout 20 SD cards that we recycle.

Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 is a decent camera and has very nice features. It is a 12 mp camera and is water and shockproof. The camera is available in black blue and silver colors. It is very easy to use and very comfortable for shooting. The photo quality is mediocre, nothing great. Performance wise, its a bit slow but if durability matters to you, then this is the best option.
